Who we are
Martin Day Electricians Limited (“Martin Day”, “we”, “us”) is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. We trade as Martin Day Commercial Electricians. Our registered office and operating address is Castleton Mill, Castleton Close, Leeds LS12 2DS. You can reach us on 0800 211 8990, on 07808 477 707 out of hours, or at [email protected].
What data we collect
We only collect what we need to quote for and carry out commercial electrical work, and to run our business properly. Depending on how you contact us this may include:
- Your name, role, company name and contact details (email, phone, premises address).
- Details about the premises and the work you want — including answers given in the quote form, the type of premises (office, retail, industrial, etc.), and the service required.
- Records of jobs, quotes, invoices, certificates and any planned-maintenance schedule.
- Correspondence with us by phone, email, WhatsApp or web form.
- Compliance paperwork we issue or hold on your behalf, including EICRs, BS 5266 emergency lighting test logs, PAT registers and Electrical Installation Certificates.
- Limited technical data when you use this website, such as your IP address, device and browser type, and pages visited, collected through cookies and analytics if you consent.
How we use your data and our lawful basis
We use your data to: respond to enquiries and provide quotes; arrange and carry out installations, testing, planned maintenance and reactive work; issue certificates and compliance documentation; take payment and chase outstanding invoices; meet our legal, NICEIC and other accreditation obligations; keep service and warranty records; and improve our website and service.
Our lawful bases under UK GDPR are: performance of a contract (or steps to enter one); our legitimate interests in running the business safely and well; compliance with legal obligations (including the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and BS 7671 record-keeping); and consent where required, for example for non-essential cookies and any future marketing.
Sharing your data
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only where necessary with:
- Our employed engineers and office staff.
- Our parent brand Martin Day Electricians where the work spans both trading identities.
- Equipment manufacturers where needed to register a product warranty.
- Procurement portals (CHAS, Constructionline, Avetta and similar) when a main contractor or client requires us to be pre-qualified through them.
- Our payment processor, accountant and IT/hosting/analytics suppliers acting on our instructions.
- Cloudflare, who provide the hosting and CDN for this website and process limited technical traffic data on our behalf under their privacy policy.
We may also disclose data where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep job, certificate, warranty and safety records for at least the length of the relevant compliance cycle (typically 5 years for an EICR, longer for installation certificates that back a long warranty). Invoice and tax records are kept for at least 6 years to satisfy HMRC. Enquiry data that does not lead to work is kept only as long as is reasonably useful and is then deleted or anonymised.
A copy of contact-form submissions is held in our shared form-handler service at forms.resultsyoucanmeasure.com and routed to the Martin Day team. The same retention and access controls apply there as to the originals.
Cookies
This website uses cookies that are strictly necessary for the site to function, and, with your consent, analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4) that help us understand how the site is used so we can improve it. You can control or refuse non-essential cookies through the cookie banner and your browser settings without losing access to the core content. We do not use intrusive advertising trackers. Full detail is in our cookie policy.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to certain processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent where processing relies on it. To exercise any of these, contact us using the details above and we will respond within the statutory time limit.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, though we would ask you to raise it with us first so we can put it right.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The version published here, with the date shown above, is the current one. Material changes will trigger a fresh cookie banner request so you can review your choices.
